(Florian) This trivia was about players who have acomplished a lot on the Pro Tour, namely at least five top eights, but never won the title. Most of the guys are in the Hall of Fame by now. Oiso and Tsumura were not eligible yet, but are quite sure to be voted in this year along with PV. The person absent from the list was Olivier Ruel. Despite all his Grand Prix triumphs and 499 Pro Points, he never won a Pro Tour.

I hope a few of you enjoyed this, although this kind of trivia doesn’t quite hit the taste of “masses”. We had 38 entrants this time and thus there are three vouchers. These go to Lionel Huber, Viego Kampmann, and Antti Airikainen. Congratulations!

(Florian) The Pro Tour is coming on, hence I will give you my second PT flavoured trivia. If you don’t like that presume it never happened and come back next week, please.

Masashi Oiso
Kenji Tsumura
Alan Comer
Anton Jonsson
Shuhei Nakamura

Five of the best players of all time. Sure they did not make it to the absolute pinnacle, but still solid Hall of Fame stuff to put it somewhat cheekily. What connects them and more important who is the person missing from this list?

Send your answer with full name and MKM-nickname to trivia@magiccardmarket.eu to win a 5 Euro voucher. There will be at least two vouchers and an additional voucher for every 25 participants up to a maximum of five. Mails without name/MKM-nick might not be considered. And please don’t post your answer here. This will ruin the fun for all the others and will also disqualify you from the raffle. I will post the winners and the answer on Monday around noon. Have fun and good luck for everybody!

PS: If you need a hint scroll down
This was not quite elegant, I know…

What connects them is that all of them are somewhat incomplete greats of Magic history.

(Florian) The easy answer to this trivia was Vorstclaw as Vorstclaw, Nettle Swine, Renegade Demon, and Raging Poltergeist are the only vanilla creatures in Avacyn Restored. The other intended pattern was functional reprints in Avacyn Restored. Some of you also found creatures with power > toughness. That’s true as well although I find it a bit dull as a pattern by which I mean in no way to affront people who actually suggested it.

There are a couple of other cards in Avacyn Restored that are functional reprints as well. Defang is a reprint of Muzzle from Mercadian Masques, Borderland Ranger is a reprint from Magic 2010 as well as a functional reprint of Civic Wayfinder, Snare the Skies is Silk Net, and Timberland Guide is an Ironshell Beetle. Everybody who found the pattern also suggested Castle as a functional reprint, which surprised me a bit. Turns out I started playing with Revised and thus I am very familiar with Revised cards. The text on the Revised version of Castle is “Your untapped creatures gain +0/+2. Attacking creatures do not get this bonus.” I had thought Builders Blessing was a cleaner version of Castle, but with 6th Edition Wizards thought some cards warranted simplification. Castle suddenly lost the “attacking creatures” clause and began pumping attacking Serra Angels, too. Sadly there were no Serra Angels around to note the change…

Anecdotes aside, we have some winners. At 82 entries there are five vouchers to award and these go to Gonçalo Alexandre Antunes Morais, Yannick Hammer, Vicente Cots Llorca, Telmo Tiago Barbosa Pinto, and Eric Enderle. Congratulations!

Nettle Swine

Renegade Demon

Raging Poltergeist

That’s easy, isn’t it? You found the pattern already? Good, but look again, because there are actually two patterns. Granted you only need to give me a card that fits into one, but it wouldn’t be fun if didn’t find both, right? One pattern is completed by just one other card, the other encompasses more cards, but not the one which is part of the other pattern.

Hi,

today I would like to address a serious subject: Fraud on MKM.

As MKM is a marketplace with tens of thousands of active users, you will encounter people acting in bad faith. Despite all our efforts to reduce fraud, ensuring no fraud attempts are made is impossible. The easiest way to cheat on MKM is selling cards without sending them, or to send false cards. So we have taken countermeasures: The MKM third-party payment system. This system forces the seller to use registered shipping, and keeps the money safe until the order has benn fully received. And it’s greatly effective at protecting buyers.

However, you have to use this system, in order to be protected. It is not free, you have to pay higher shipping costs for registered shipping, yet the protection is worth it. For orders over 25 euros, insured shipping is mandatory, for orders below 25 euros, the buyer is free to choose whether to take it or not. But even if you did not use the system and we find out that you have been cheated by a seller, we usually will refund you your money nonwithstanding.

What we cannot protect you from is your own greed. I would like to show you an order that got placed yesterday:

So please consider, what is happening here:

The cards in this order are MASSIVELY underpriced.
Come on, a Fetchland for 5€, are you for real?

The seller’s address is obviously fake: Phantasy streetname, no housenumber, and the city doesn’t exist. The buyer is from Spain too, so he really must know this. If you’re not from Spain, ask Google maps!

The order value is 24 euros -> HOORAY! I may buy without insurance.

So it’s “too cheap cards” from a non-existing address, shipped without insurance. For most people it is obvious that this order is never going to arrive, but sadly not for everyone. If you want to maybe get a great deal without the risk, of being scammed spend 2 euros more for insured shipping! If you get the above cards at theses prices, you are going to win at least 20 euros. Why would you rather win 20 euros and risk loosing 25, than winning 18 euros without any risk? You were too greedy. This is what happened.

Do you know the television series “Hustle“? It’s about a gang of con artists (cheaters) and their credo is: “You can’t cheat an honest man.”, because he knows when something is “too good to be real”. But you can cheat greedy people, because they tend to loose all rationality when they see a “good offer”.

Regarding the actual situation on MKM, we have already canceled/refunded all insured or unsent orders, blocked the sellers profile and will take legal steps against him. But we cannot and will not refund orders like the one above. So please, for your own safety:

Don’t be the guy that gets cheated. Don’t be greedy.

(Florian) This trivia was about elves. Only Elvish Healer has Elf in its name and only Safehold Sentry has Elf printed as its creature type, but actually these cards have all been updated to become Elves. Originally I wanted to included Elf Replica, too, but I feared that this would be too confusing and many people would have tried for any non-green Elf then, when the intented pattern would have been Elves outside their two home colours (green/black). Thus I went strictly for white Elves of which conveniently there are exactly five in Magic. The missing one was Rune-Cervin Rider.

At 68 answers there are four vouchers this week and they go to Axel Hannwacker, Toby Hazes, Christian Becker, and Florian Utsch. Congratulations!

(Florian) You know this game is amazing? I thought I had run out of stuff to show you around trivia #20, but almost every single week since I stumbled upon something which made for another good trivia. Granted not all were of the same quality, but I hope you like this one.

Safehold Sentry

Keen-Eyed Archers

Devoted Hero

Elvish Healer

There is just one other card which fits this pattern; the pattern I chose anyway. If the pattern was arts I don’t like or small creatures a lot more would fit, but you are looking for one specific card and you don’t have to speculate on my preferences. It’s a pattern that can be verified objectively. So which card is missing here?

Send your answer with full name and MKM-nickname to trivia@magiccardmarket.eu to win a 5 Euro voucher. There will be at least two vouchers and an additional voucher for every 25 participants up to a maximum of five. Mails without name/MKM-nick might not be considered. And please don’t post your answer here. This will ruin the fun for all the others and will also disqualify you from the raffle. I will post the winners and the answer on Monday around noon. Have fun and good luck for everybody!
